BOTOX® Cosmetic

After years of squinting, laughing, frowning and worrying, the skin around the eyes and on the forehead will often develop deep lines and wrinkles called "expression lines." A frequent concern is that they often make you look older, tired or stressed. By utilizing this FDA approved muscle-relaxing agent, expression lines can be significantly reduced.

Smile, laugh and frown, and make all the facial expressions you want and stop worrying about wrinkles!

Botox

How does Botox® Cosmetic Work?
The contractions and movements of the facial muscles are controlled by signals from the brain. Botox® Cosmetic simply prevents the muscle from allowing responses to these messages. As a result, the muscle relaxes and the overlying skin remains unwrinkled and smooth.

What is treatment like?
With a very fine needle, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the specific muscle that is contracting and causing the lines and wrinkles on the face. Once you are unable to make the expression that creates the wrinkle, the lines will diminish. Deep lines will not completely disappear but they will soften. Some patients with very deep lines may benefit from also having a dermal filler. Treatment is effective, safe, and takes approximately 15 minutes. The pain is a minimal "pin prick" and no anesthetic is required.

How long does the treatment last?
The effects usually last three to four months, and fade away gradually. Following several treatments, the results may last four to eight months or longer.

Are there possible side effects?

Side effects, if any, are usually mild and temporary. Temporary bruising is sometimes experienced, though this symptom resolves itself within two to three
days. In rare cases, there can be a slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression. If this should happen, please call our office.

What type of results will I see?
Typically, the effect of treatment is visible within three days. Maximum benefits are reached between 10 to 14 days. Once the muscle becomes dormant and the skin softens, you will have a more relaxed and youthful appearance.

Dermal Fillers
Juvéderm™

Juvéderm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

What can I Expect  and How Long Will Treatment Last?
Because Juvéderm® injectable gel is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. So you can make an appointment for treatment —and get right back to your life.

Before you go: We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

We will examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds to determine your treatment. Juvéderm® injectable gel is available in two formulations—Juvéderm® Ultra for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, a robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. This allows us to tailor treatment to your unique needs.

Although anesthesia is not required, topical or injectable anesthesia is available to numb the treatment area first. Juvéderm® is then injected under your skin to fill wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, your healthcare professional may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes. There is minimal recovery or downtime. You will see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most individuals need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. JUVÉDERM® is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved* to last up to 1 year

And one treatment can smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year!  Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

Restylane®

Restylane® is long lasting cosmetic filler that provides dramatic results for improving the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. This is a non-surgical solution to soften facial lines and wrinkles, restore volume and fullness to the skin, plump up lips, and fill in scars. Restylane® injected into the lips can give back fullness to lips that have receded. The cosmetic results are visible immediately, bestowing you with a more youthful and invigorated look.

What is the treatment like?
Restylane® is injected in small amounts under your skin to fill creases, lines, wrinkles, or folds. It is also injected around the lip area to create volume, resulting in a more youthful appearance. A skin test is not necessary prior to treatment, so treatment can be performed at any time. In order to optimize your comfort, the treatment area may be anesthetized with a topical cream or anesthetic block. Treatment results are immediately evident.

How long do the results last?
Depending on many factors, such as your lifestyle, age, and skin structure, your results may last as long as six months to a year or more. You may require a touch up treatment two to four weeks after the first treatment to achieve your desired result. Treatment to enhance the lips is reported to last much longer than treatment using standard collagen filler. When the effect of the treatment begins to diminish, you can replenish the area as needed.

What can I expect following treatment?
You can resume normal activities following treatment. The most commonly reported side effect has been redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within a few hours or, at most, a day or two. Results are immediately evident. Lines, wrinkles, and folds look softer and your skin looks smooth.

The time intervals of your treatments will be determined during the consultation where many of these issues and concerns may be addressed.

Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown-pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible, before improvement takes place.

Chemical Peels and ViPeel

Men and women alike share a common desire to have healthy, youthful skin. Exposure to the sun and the elements in combination with adverse living habits contribute to the appearance of our skin. Chemical peels are increasingly popular with those who are unhappy about acne scarring, sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, fine lines, rough skin, and uneven pigmentation.

What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are topically applied acids that aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of the skin's surface. They create a uniform and controlled shedding of several layers of the skin. Depending on the nature and depth of the peel, a significant number of layers can be exfoliated allowing new growth to be exposed, creating a fresh vibrant appearance.

Who are candidates?
Your skin type and the results you are aspiring to achieve will determine if you are a candidate, as well as which class of peel is most appropriate for you.

What are the benefits of a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels can enhance your appearance by reducing blotchy and uneven pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, freckling, age spots, sun-damaged skin, and acne scars in a relatively brief measure of time. Chemical peels accelerate the production of new cells. Enjoy fresh smooth skin immediately after your first treatment!

What are the side effects?
Chemical peels have become increasingly popular because of the array of advantages and relative lack of complications. Side effects are rare and usually temporary. Some side effects include uneven pigmentation, redness, and very infrequent scarring if the skin is not cared for appropriately. Sun protection is crucial to minimize the risk of side effects. A treatment program of individually suited products and sun protection will benefit your skin's ability to maintain the results of the peel. You can decrease the likelihood of side effects by carefully following the instructions from your dermatologist.

Types of Chemical Peels:
Chemical peels are classified as superficial, medium, and deep peels.

Superficial Peel- This peel is designed to help smooth coarse, dry skin, improve the texture of sun-damaged skin, and even out skin tone. The recovery is generally rapid and usually involves some minor flaking. A series of treatments is ordinarily recommended to obtain the desired result over a period of time. Typically, there is no down time and with appropriate sun protection, you can resume regular activities immediately.

Medium Peel- Medium peels contain a stronger potency of acids. Medium peels target the epidermis and upper dermis and cause the skin to slough within five to seven days. Immediately after treatment the skin has a red appearance and is occasionally accompanied by swelling. Within a day the skin turns brown in color, and after three or four days the skin initiates the peeling process.

Deep Peel- Deep peels produce the most dramatic results. This peel is recommended for treating wrinkles, scars, blemishes and, in some cases, precancerous skin lesions. A deep peel targets the dermis. In some cases, anesthesia is required during the procedure to reduce the warm to hot stinging sensation. After a deep peel, the skin is red and can result in some swelling and blistering. A crust may form and the skin will turn brown just prior to peeling. Many layers of the skin will peel over a period of one to two weeks. An ointment may be given to keep the area moist. Temporarily, the new skin will have the color and sensation of significant sunburn, which will gradually fade to your normal skin color.
